These pigs in a blanket crescent rolls are a childhood classic you remember. Smokey sausage, covered in melty cheese, is wrapped in warm, flaky crescent rolls that are brushed with a homemade butter sauce.

If you love crescent rolls as much as we do, try these cheesy Chicken Crescent Rolls or Sausage Cream Cheese Crescent Rolls.

Ingredients

  • Crescent Rolls: Golden, flaky crescent rolls are what makes this recipe so addicting AND easy to make. You can never eat just one pig in a blanket!
  • Lil Smokies Smoked Sausage: These little sausages add a hint of smoky flavor.
  • Cheddar Cheese: Everything tastes better with cheese! If you don't like cheddar, try Monterey Jack or American Cheese instead.
  • Unsalted Butter: Using unsalted butter cuts down on the salt content from the cheese and sausages while adding plenty of buttery goodness.
  • Dijon Mustard: Dijon is a smooth mustard with a bold, spicy flavor though you can swap it for another mustard if you prefer.
  • Honey and Worcestershire Sauce : Honey adds a little sweetness while the Worcestershire adds savory depth to the butter sauce.
  • Seasonings: We use dried parsley and onion powder to add a little extra flavor to the butter sauce.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

Variations

  • Add a Toppings: Sprinkle freshly baked crescent pigs in a blanket with flaky sea salt, sesame seeds, or Everything Bagel seasoning.
  • Spice it Up: Use pepper jack cheese in place of cheddar to ramp up the spice level.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Spread some honey mustard, barbecue sauce, or chipotle mayo on the crescent roll before wrapping it up for added flavor.
  • Give it a Breakfast Flavor: Try wrapping up your favorite breakfast sausage and maybe even adding scrambled eggs inside the crescent roll.
  • Make With Hot Dogs: Wrap hot dogs in a full-sized crescent roll for a heartier snack or cut them into small pieces to keep them snacking size.

How to Make Pigs in a Blanket with Crescent Roll

To get started, preheat your oven to 375° F and line a baking sheet in parchment paper.

  1. Step 5: Bake. Place the tray in your preheated oven and bake until golden perfection.

Hint: Keeping Them Sealed

Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down on the baking sheet. This helps the dough seal and keeps it from splitting open.

Expert Tips

  • Space Apart: Place the little smokie crescent rolls about an inch apart on the baking sheet.
  • Cutting the dough: A pizza cutter makes quick work of cutting the rolls.
  • Make Ahead:  You can wrap the sausages and store them, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking.

Storage Directions

  • Storing: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them after they're cooked for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating: To reheat in the oven, cover the pigs and bake in a  325° F oven until they're warmed through, about 8-10 minutes. You can also reheat them in the microwave for a few minutes, though the dough isn't as crisp as reheating in the oven.

Serving Suggestions

These easy pigs and a blanket are perfect for a tailgate party or an after school snack. Serve them up with sauces for dipping such as ketchup, mustard, spicy mayo, homemade Wingstop ranch, and more!

  • Serve little smokies in crescent rolls alongside crack corn dip, best ever twice baked potatoes, and 7 layer taco dip at your next get together.
  • Set out plenty of crackers and breads for the dips. For an extra touch, serve up this smoked queso dip for dipping.
  • If you're looking for something sweet to add to the menu, try this fruit pizza recipe.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make these crescent little smokies in the air fryer?

Yes. Place them in a single layer and cook them at 400° F for 8 - 10 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Do you need to cook the sausages first?

No. Since the smokies are pre-cooked, they're ready to use in the recipe.

Can I use biscuits instead of crescent rolls?

Yes. You might want to cut the biscuits in half and roll them out a little before wrapping up the smokies.
