Ingredients

Ingredients to make this banana bread with peanut butter on a table.
  • All-Purpose Flour: The base of your loaf; use a good-quality, unbleached flour for the best texture. Measure carefully by spooning into the cup and leveling off.
  • Brown Sugar: Adds sweetness and moisture; either light or dark brown sugar works.
  • Ripe Bananas: Choose bananas with plenty of brown spots; they're sweeter, softer, and add the best flavor and moisture to the bread.
  • Peanut Butter: Adds creamy, nutty flavor and richness. Use smooth peanut butter for a uniform texture. For more peanut butter goodness, try our chocolate chip peanut butter cups or our chewy peanut butter cookies.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

Variations

  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bread: Fold in ½ cup of chocolate chips for a rich, indulgent peanut butter chocolate chip banana bread. If you love the combination of chocolate and peanut butter, you'll enjoy these chocolate peanut butter chip cookies.
  • Nutty Banana Twist: Add ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch and depth of flavor.
  • PB Swirl Delight: Swirl in an extra 2-3 tbsp of peanut butter on top before baking for a gooey, peanut-buttery finish.

  1. Step 4: Bake the Bread. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the loaf cool completely before slicing and serving.

Expert Tips

  • Use Ripe Bananas: The sweeter and more spotted the bananas, the more natural sweetness and moisture they bring to your loaf. Mash them thoroughly for an even texture.
  • Measure Flour Correctly: Spoon the flour into your measuring cup and level it off to avoid a dry, dense bread.
  • Check for Doneness: Insert a toothpick in the center to test. It should come out clean or with a few crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep the bread moist.
  • Add Mix-Ins at the End: If adding chocolate chips, nuts, or other mix-ins, fold them in last to prevent the batter from becoming too stiff.
  • Storage Tips: Allow the loaf to cool completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. It keeps at room temperature for 2-3 days, or refrigerated for up to a week.

  • Serve slices of peanut butter and banana bread for breakfast or brunch alongside our cherry muffins and a refreshing vanilla bean frappuccino.
  • Make it a dessert for a family dinner with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

Recipe FAQs

Why is my banana peanut butter bread dense?

Overmixing the batter or using too much flour can make the loaf heavy. Gently fold ingredients just until combined for a lighter texture.

Can I freeze this peanut butter and banana bread recipe?

Yes, slice the cooled bread and freeze it in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 2 months. Thaw slices at room temperature or warm briefly in the microwave.

Can I make mini loaves or muffins with this banana peanut butter bread recipe?
