These irresistible and nostalgic squares require no baking skill! You're going to love Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats that feature butter, mini marshmallows, vanilla, and colorful Lucky Charms cereal.

If you love easy dessert recipes, youโ€™re going to love Peanut Butter Pretzel Pie, Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats, and O'Henry Bars Recipe.

Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

  • No Baking Required: It only takes 15 minutes to make these treats using the stovetop or microwave. There's no baking needed!
  • Colorful and Fun: These are a fun twist on classic Rice Krispie treats but with more personality from the Lucky Charms cereal we're using.
  • Crowd Pleaser: These have always been a hit with anyone we've made them for.
  • Beginner Friendly: This dessert recipe is very easy with just four ingredients and a few simple steps.

Ingredients Youโ€™ll Need

  • Lucky Charms Cereal: Grab a standard sized box of the crunchy cereal pieces and colorful marshmallows and you'll be ready to make this Lucky Charms treats recipe.
  • Mini Marshmallows: The smaller size means the marshmallows will melt faster. Be sure to buy them fresh for the best flavor in these cereal marshmallow treats.
  • Butter: You can set the butter out on the counter so it's room temperature and will melt faster.
  • Vanilla Extract: You only need a teaspoon. We recommend using pure vanilla extract instead of imitation for Lucky Charms crispy treats.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

Variations

  • S'mores Version: For a s'mores version, throw in ยฝ cup chocolate chips and sprinkle crushed graham crackers on top.
  • Chocolate Dipped: Once the squares have set, dip half of each one into melted chocolate. You could use either dark, milk, or white chocolate.
  • St. Patrick's Day Version: Melt some green chocolate melts and drizzle it over the top of the tray after you pressing them in. Add in some festive holiday sprinkles to stick to the melted chocolate.

How to Make Lucky Charms Treats

To get started, spray a 9x9 inch pan and gather all your ingredients.

  1. Step 1: Melt the Butter and Marshmallows. Use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the butter. Stir in the mini marshmallows and microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring until they are fully melted.
  2. Step 2: Add the Vanilla. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Step 3: Add the Lucky Charms. Stir well until the cereal is completely covered in the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Step 4: Pour Into the Pan. Pour the mixture into the pan and press it down gently. If needed, you can put a little water or cooking spray on your hands to keep the cereal from sticking. Let the treats set for 30 minutes before serving.

Hint: Donโ€™t Crush the Cereal

Be gentle when putting the cereal and marshmallow mixture in the pan. Press it down carefully so you donโ€™t crush the Lucky Charms.

Expert Tips

  • Work Quickly: Once the marshmallows melt, you'll want to add the cereal immediately and mix everything together quickly before it sets.
  • Sticky Fingers: You can lightly coat your hands and spatula with cooking spray to avoid the marshmallow-coated cereal from sticking to your hand.
  • For the Best Texture: Don't press down too hard when pressing the mixture into the pan, otherwise it can make Lucky Charm cereal bars too dense, compact, and hard to chew.
  • Clean Lines: If you want the perfect squares, let the treats cool for 30 minutes and then use a knife sprayed with cooking spray to cut each square. Wipe the knife clean between cuts.

Storing Leftovers

  • Storing: Leftover Lucky Charms marshmallow treats keep in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. Place parchment paper between layers to prevent the bars from sticking to each other.
  • Make Ahead: These treats are perfect for making 1-2 days ahead of parties or events. Allow them to set completely before cutting and storing in an airtight container.

Serving Suggestions

These Lucky Charms Treats are great for an everyday treat or dessert, or a festive occasion. Here are some ways to enjoy them.

  • Pair Lucky Charms rice crispy treats with a cold glass of milk, hot chocolate, or a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream for an easy snack or dessert.
  • Make this Lucky Charms dessert for a birthday party and cut each bar into shapes using cookie cutters for a fun display.
  • Serve at a brunch gathering with fresh fruit and sausage and egg muffins, breakfast casserole with hashbrowns, or sausage and gravy.
  • Create a dessert charcuterie board featuring these treats alongside chocolate-dipped strawberries, mint brownies, and oatmeal chocolate chip bars.
  • Pack Lucky Charms bars in your lunch or bring them as a portable snack for a picnic, hike, or road trip.

Recipe FAQs

What are the best marshmallows to use for Lucky charms rice krispie treats?

Mini marshmallows are the best choice for a smooth and creamy mixture. Regular-sized marshmallows can be used, but they may take longer to melt and create a lumpier texture.

What other cereals can I use in this recipe?

You can customize the cereal to your taste buds! Try Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or any of your favorite cereal brands.

Equipment

  • Glass Mixing Bowls

Ingredients

  • ยฝ cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows
  • 7 cups Lucky Charms

Instructions

  • Spray a 9x9 pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt butter. Stir in mini marshmallows and microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until completely melted.
  • Stir in vanilla extract. Slowly add in the Lucky Charms and stir until completely covered in the marshmallow mixture.
  • Pour the mixture into the pan. Spray your clean hands with a little cooking spray and press the mixture evenly in the pan.
  • Let the treats set for 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Melt the marshmallows just until smooth. Overheating them can make them too tough.
  • Work quickly once the marshmallows are melted as the mixture sets rapidly.
  • Lightly spray your hands with cooking spray before pressing the mixture into the pan.
  • Pat the mixture into the pan gently. Compacting too firmly can make the treats too dense.
  • Cut them about 30 minutes after assembling.
  • Store with parchment paper between layers to prevent them from sticking together.
