Ingredients

  • 4 black tea bags
  • 2 cups water boiling
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 star anise whole
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cups whole milk

Instructions

  • Add the tea bags, spices, and whole star anise to a saucepan that holds at least 4-5 cups. Then, pour 2 cups of boiling water over them.
  • Let steep for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags and whole star anise, stir.
  • Stir in the vanilla, honey, and milk.
  • If not warm enough, putback on the stove and stir until warm

Notes

  • Use bold black tea like Assam or English Breakfast for a rich, full-bodied chai flavor.
  • Steep the spices with the tea to allow the flavors to fully infuse before adding milk.
  • Froth the milk separately for a creamy, café-style finish that sits beautifully on top.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness with honey or vanilla after steeping to get the perfect balance.
